I don’t tend to shoot many private parties but I guess at the end of the day they’re a mixture of wedding and club photography. People tend to loosen up after a drink or two and that let me achieve a really nice, natural look and let me bring out the guest’s personalities without too much prodding and persuading.
Hazlewood Castle is a unique venue with some gorgeous features to use for events like this, blending modern and decidedly ancient looks for a versatile, friendly environment.
I opted for a traditional approach to the set pieces at the beginning of the night, shooting much as I would at a wedding, moving onto a more edgy, low key look with waaay off camera flash as I became more comfortable shooting the guests and they started to feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
If anyone would like any prints or DVD with full-resolution photos from the night please contact me for pricing.
